Tuesday Tutorial... Messy Bun

Today is super busy! Got the kids off to summer camp and hopped in the shower. I have a shopping date with a friend and then when the kids get home we are going to a water park. So needless to say I don't feel like blow drying, flat-ironing, or curling my hair...
No worries! Messy Bun to the Rescue!!!
{The messy bun was probably created by a busy mom don't you think?}

So any who...
Step 1:Wet hair, kinda obvious

*FAVE*
Pureology hydrating shampoo & conditioner
Add a little 'love'
(something to smooth, soften, protect your hair)
Only in your ends! The biggest complaint I hear from people is that they tried an oil like Moroccan, silk infusion, etc and that their hair was greasy.
That is because they put it on the top where your scalp is already producing enough oil. We  are only replenishing the ends :)

That little bit of left over on your hands? Rub it on your elbows! Why not.

Round brush the top of your hair. I ALWAYS do this for a little lift.
Big Fat round brush works best.
 Embrace the pasty white skin...
Ahhh. Now we are getting somewhere. If your hair is frizzy
(like mine used to get! *See Chi Enviro Smoothing Treatment)
Run a little flat iron over the top and ends. It doesn't have to be perfect.

OK. Here we go. Pony tail. Don't pull the last loop around all the way thru.
Get it? Then with your fingers on the left and right of the bump, pull tight.
There will still be hair straight at the bottom.
Pull the right side of the bump and loop up. Not all of it just a part of that side.
Notice that my hair underneath is still wet. It was a super quicky blow-dry. It doesn't have to be totally dry for the messy bun. That is the beauty in it.
And bobby pin it.

Now the same on the left side.
Then repeat with the left over hair. Again on the right, and then the left.

Anything that is sticking out that you don't like just pin it.
There is just a lot of pinning, looping and tucking

 Waaaa Laaa!
Don't forget your friend Hair Spray!

 Boom Chick a locka Boom
{Aren't you glad I put my other shirt on?
So much cuter. I just don't like getting hair on my clothes...)
I was feeling really good about this cute hair do. Then my friend called and said she can't make it to go shopping... So this will be some dang cute hair for a water park ;)

Sock buns... Bad hair days or big bouncy curls!

Sock buns... Have you heard of them? There are basically two reasons for doing these: A) big bouncy curls without using heat. Or B) Because buns aren't just for librarians anymore! Plus they are awesome to hide bad hair days. *wink*

Both kinds require the same technique.

Step 1: Cut the toe off a trouser sock. (I actually cut the leg off my daughters leggings that she had worn a hole in)

Step 2: Put your hair in a high pony. (Loosely so you don't get the yucky krink if you are going for curls.)

Step 3: Roll your sock (or legging) into a cute bagel/doughnut). Then put your ponytail thru the center.

Step 4: Roll with it! I mean tuck your hair over the doughnut and keep rolling, tucking, twisting...

This youtube video is my fave tutorial for the bouncy curls.
Tip # 5 : Sock Bun Curls [No Heat]

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mI9Qji7Gbvg

Just a few tips of advice... Notice that her hair was dry and she sprayed it. I did mine at night after I showered. I blow dried my bangs and my hair was mostly dry when I put it up. My ponytail holder was very loose because I wanted to wear it down the next day.

Also... ignore your husband when he questions your strange going-to-bed-hair. Trust me it will look hot tomorrow and he'll wonder why he ever doubted you.

This second youtube tutorial is an adorable girl who wore her bun with pride. She says it's perfect for a bad hair day. I feel like we are bonded in the blonde-with-curls-sisterhood. I was like "yaaa, I could totally sport this curly bun after I've been in the pool all day"

Either way you are free from the flat iron. Here in AZ that is always a good thing when it is 150 bijillion degrees outside!

Let me know if you try this and leave any additional words of advice. :)
PS. Am I the only one who wants a maple doughnut after all this doughnut talk???
Just sayin!

Emma Stone... my obsession

I recently find myself obsessed with this talented actress, not for her incredible acting abilities but for her hair...
Born a natural blonde she has colored her hair every color from brunette, to red, to strawberry blonde, and back to blonde again.

The impressive thing is that she can wear every color!

So tell me, which is your favorite? Are you brave enough to try a new shade or do you stay with what you know?

Any excuse to go to Vegas!

I just got back from a trip to Las Vegas. My excuse for going was to attend the International Beauty Show. (IBS) We went a few days early and had our fun, and plenty of it! The cast and crew included Me, my Hubby, my good friend Britton (hairstylist), her hubby, Patti (Nail Technician) her hubby, and a bunch of friends, for total of 11, plus a few more when we got there.
So Sunday morning I said "Have Fun" to my hubby and ditched him to see another man. This one...
Do you recognize him? Nick Arrojo. You probably know him from TLC's What Not To Wear. I was excited to meet him and hear what he was all about.
I could not have been more impressed! I've been licensed for over 11 years and am looking forward to really  boosting my business now that my youngest child is going to school. LIstening to Nick (as if we are on a first name basis) talk about the industry, selling products, the recession, and razor haircuts, was definitely the highlight of the show for me.
I watched him as he razor cut this beautiful girl's hair, and THEN went over it with the shears. It had so much movement and texture I was ready to storm the stage and take her place! (OF course I didn't because I only do these impulsive crazy things in my head. Who's with me?)
I now have the highest respect for this hairstylist. I look forward to taking one of his seminars some day, and for now will watch all of his instructional videos, and of course What Not To Wear on TLC. Who doesn't want to grab people off the street and totally make them over? Love that show!
(These will have to do until the day I fly to NYC for drinks with him, and Clinton, and Stacy...) Ahh, there I go again :)
