Happy New Year

It always seems like the new year brings resolutions, goals, and fresh starts. My goals this year are really personal and not something you can easily check off. So instead of calling it a goal or a resolution I would say that my FOCUS this year is more about how I feel. I really want to let things GO more. Try not to over-think and over analyze EVERY freaking thing.

I give others way too much control over the way I feel and who does that end up hurting but myself. My focus this year is that I will be happier with ME. If I haven't heard from someone that doesn't mean that they are mad at me. That simply means that they are busy, like the rest of us! If they actually are upset with me then that is up to them to tell me about it so that I can apologize, or explain myself. It is absolutely NEVER my intention to hurt someone. I try my hardest to show love to everyone, but of course sometimes I just blurt things out without thinking. Okay more than sometimes. Maybe that should have been my resolution.... thinking before I speak.. Hmm something to think about.

Anyways! A new year is also a great time to try something new with your hair, starting with great new products. Here are my current favorites!
If you curl your hair with a wand or iron this Aquage Working Spray is perfect for spraying in your hair beforehand. It will hold those curls all day (or for days if you are an every day or 3 days before washing girl like me)
Next, Redken Quick Tease 15 is a fabulous texture spray. It has minimal hold and great texture without weighing your hair down. After your curl your hair and give it a quick run through with your fingers, use this spray next to finish the look.
Finally finish it all off with Redken Control Addict 28. It is the PERFECT finishing spray to set that style. Great hold but not helmet sticky if you catch my drift.
These 3 products are my most used of any in the salon!
I hope that you will give these products a try!
Happy New Year Everyone!

Video Tuorial: Fun French Pony

OK are you all ready for this...
Another video tutorial :)
Woo Hoo!
Today's tutorial is perfect for those warm (it's-not-really-fall-because-we-live-in-AZ) hair days. I love it because it's cuter than just a regular pony tail. This look will work for every hair type.

For this look you will need:

French braid know-how
A few bobby pins
An elastic (I like the clear ones)

In an attempt to cut down video time I jumped right in on this one.

At the very beginning of the video I've already sectioned my hair into 3 sections.
(If you are looking for a "crazy hair day" for school you can end the video right where it starts) Ha!

Also there is another 'visitor' on this video. Maybe I should close the door when I'm filming but I kinda like the moral support... hehe

What do you think? Will you try this look?

On a recent visit to the professional beauty I supply I spotted a new shampoo and conditioner. New to me at the least. NEVO. Natural, organic, sulfate free. Check.  Check. Check. So I of course had to give it a try.

I grabbed the Moisture Rich (because I neeeeed moisture like I need chocolate. Absolutely necessary.)

Moisture Rich Shampoo is a daily shampoo with Babassu Oil and Brazil Nut Oil, and it's great for  hair color protection.
Oo La La!

The first thing I noticed when I shampooed was that I could not get a good lather going. I had just finished a run... (By run, I mean walk/ jog intervals. I'm getting better. I'm trying to be a "runner." That's what counts right?)
Maybe my hair was extra dirty? Totally possible So I gave it a second shampoo, and then a third. Third time was a charm. Now remember that most sulfate free shampoos will give you less lather. That is part of their charm. They aren't stripping out your color either. This one claims to still give you a "rich, luxurious lather." Hmmm...

The smell was my absolute favorite part! It smells like flowers but not in that overwhelming perfume-y way. In a totally awesome fresh way.  I loved the smell it filled the shower with. Organic, essential oils, spa-like bliss. I'm Bella in the field of flowers with Edward.... Too much?

I think you can tell I liked it ;-)

The conditioner felt creamy in my hands. Not too heavy on my hair either. So far so good.

The first couple of times I used this shampoo and conditioner I wasn't sold. But I honestly think my hair just had to get used to the change. Now I'm liking it a lot more. It doesn't weigh down my hair. It feels soft too. I'm about halfway through the bottles and liking it more and more.

Now the really great stuff...

No Sulfates No Phthalates No Animal Testing
No Sulfites No Gluten No Cocamide DEA
No Parabens No Propylene Glycol
No Sodium Chloride No Animal Bi-Products 100% Biodegradable Packaging

Yes biodegradable packaging. You can plant the ENTIRE box that it comes in. There are wild flower seeds embedded in the box! Awesome! I have never seen anything like it.
So I planted the box...

Its been a couple of weeks... It's possible that I am too impatient but I don't think anything is going to bloom.

Overall I give the NEVO Moisture Rich a thumbs up!
(My gardening skills could use a little work)

Have you used this product? What did you think? Would you like to try it?

If you are a local customer and would like to order some let me know. I would be happy to pick some up for you.

House of Cards

If you have Netflix you may have seen their own original series called House of Cards. We flew through 13 episodes and wished for more. I love the conniving and crafty ways of power couple Frank and Claire Underwood (played by Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright).

"Proximity to power deludes some into believing they wield it." Frank Underwood

Nothing felt more powerful than Claire's perfect mane.
I'm obsessed with Claire's haircut in the show. There I said it. Obsessed. I was eager to see it from every angle. I loved to watch how she gelled it back for a glam gala look, or let the bangs sweep across her face for her more casual power-pencil-skirt attire.

I started thinking of who could wear this hair.... Do you ever see great hair and say to yourself,  You know who that would look great on? No? Just me? Everyone does that right?

Have you watched House of Cards yet? What did you think?
I'm dying for the next season to be released. It's a great show!

What shows are you watching or looking forward to?

Video Tutorial: Loose curls for short hair

It can be dang hard to get cute curls on short hair, but not with the right tools.

Most important is the right SIZE curling iron. For my not-quite-shoulder length hair I use a 1" iron. To decide what size curling iron is right for you to achieve the "boho look" you should be able to wrap your hair around the iron 2 times. If your hair is past the shoulders you will probably want to use an iron that is 1 1/4" to 1 1/2 inches.

You'll notice in the video that I can only wrap the bottom half of my hair around my iron one and a half times. That's okay because it's the bottom and just needs a slight wave.

A little trick I like to use is to twist the hair after I curl it. I feel like this does two things. First, by twisting it it kind of relaxes the curl to more of the bohemian wave instead of a ringlet. Second, it helps the curl cool down.

The rest is in the video. That's right my first video. Feel free to mock me let me know if you have any pointers for making a video tutorial. I laughed, stared, wondered...if I would actually share...

Also near the end you will hear strange grunts, stretches and a sigh. I refer to these odds sounds as "the old man". It's Broc (our boxer). You can't see him but you will probably hear him ;-)

For your inner greek goddess... A tutorial

Lately I'm loving headbands. Not the Alice in Wonderland kind but the glam I'm kind of a goddess type.
Did you watch the RHOC reunion? Pretend I didn't either.... But if we had we would have seen Lydia who often wears these cute new kind of headbands

I've seen them everywhere lately so I ventured out to find one for myself. I found this treasure at Charming Charlies for like $8.99.

Not a bad price but I thought to myself "this would not be hard to make."

With determination and my cheap skate mindset, I headed of to the crafting mecca of my world- Hobby Lobby. In the jewelry aisle I found a couple of these strands.

I don't know what their intended purpose is but they worked perfectly. (I found the corded elastic near the fabric)

I measured the headband I already had purchased and decided that my ideal length was going to be around 20". (I don't like to wear a headband and a headache.) I find that I like these headbands sort of loose. I've kind of been wearing them as an almost halo and usually pin my hair either half up or all up so they are secured by bobby pins.
Easiest tutorial ever:
The jewels were 7" long so I added 26" in elastic
(because it's doubled over and I wanted an overall length of 20")
I literally looped the elastic through the ends of the jewels and tied a square knot in the middle
securing both pieces together

Trim the ends

 What do you think?
(This is my 'Greek goddess' vignette filter attempt)
I made a headband out of the flower one also but forgot to snap a pic. Just imagine more selfies with a different headband but same filter as above. Overload. So lets not and say I did :)

What do you think? Will you make a headband or two? Do you like this new trend?
